Do Only the Necessary

Necessity.

It’s a simple yet elusive context to grasp and even harder to implement.

How often do you find yourself thinking, “Is this really necessary?”

I frequently find myself wasting valuable time on unnecessary things.

Social media, downloading unnecessary information into my mind, getting distracted with unnecessary thoughts, etc.

Even in social interactions, I find that sometimes I say or text things that just aren’t necessary. Perhaps out of impulse or irrationality.

All that takes up time. Unnecessary time.

That makes me wonder… how much more fulfilling would our lives be if we devoted all of our waking hours on what is truly necessary:

  1. Family
  2. Friends
  3. Passionate work
  4. Service to others / charity
  5. Personal development
  6. Contemplation and prayer

But if you think deeper,

Is anything ever, truly necessary?
